Galaxie Cultural Station Organises Week for Ukraine
23. 2. 2026, Tiskové zprávy
From 23 February to 1 March, Galaxie Cultural Station in Prague’s Háje district will host an event devoted to the largest military conflict since World War II presently raging in Europe. Visitors to Ukraine Week can expect a charity performance, an exhibition, lectures and first-hand accounts from people impacted by this war.
Lecture / 26 February at 6 p.m.
Personal experiences from Ukraine and the impact of the war on the Czech Republic
There is a vast amount of information about the war in Ukraine in the public domain. Due to the dynamic nature of the conflict, the sensitivity of the whole situation and extensive disinformation campaigns, much of it is often contradictory. This makes it all the more valuable to meet someone who has personal experience of the situation in Ukraine. What is the current state of affairs in Ukraine and what does it imply for the Czech Republic? What can and should we do? Why must we be resilient and how can we prepare ourselves for the future? What do NGOs such as Group D, Memory of Nations and the newly established Strong Europe do? Otakar Foltýn will attempt to answer these questions on Thursday, 26 February from 6:00 p.m. during a lecture moderated by Minor Theatre director Jan Jirků and Jiří Havelka, artistic director of Dejvice Theatre.
Theatre / 26 February at 7:30 p.m.
Everyone Has Their Own Truth
Charity performance by the Dejvice Theatre
Proceeds from ticket sales will support the Help Ukraine with Memory of Nations fundraising campaign, organised by Post Bellum.
Exhibition
Freedom at the Highest Price
A panel exhibition in the Galaxie foyer, jointly organised by Paměť národa (Memory of Nations) and Vlny solidarity (Waves of Solidarity). It commemorates Czech soldiers who sacrificed their lives defending their invaded country.
Audio
Voice of Testimony
As part of the exhibition, audio material prepared by DanceConnected will be available for listening to in the foyer. In the material, Ukrainian choreographer and stage director Yulia Lopata shares her experiences of the war, the changes brought to everyday life and how art plays a key role for her in this time of crisis.
Pending ticket
The situations of Ukrainian refugees in the Czech Republic vary. Some have sufficient financial resources, others do not. That is why the Minor Theatre in cooperation with Prague 11 district decided to expand the Pending Ticket project as part of Ukraine Week. By purchasing an extra ticket, viewers will enable Ukrainian children in difficult social situations to enjoy a theatre experience that they would otherwise not be able to afford.
Public appeal to theatre companies
Lukáš Průdek, director of the Dejvice theatre, and Jiří Havelka, its artistic director, have called on colleagues from other theatre companies and institutions to take advantage of the opportunity to join the Week for Ukraine initiative from anywhere in the country. The ways in which this support can be expressed are left entirely open. It is very encouraging that shortly after the appeal was made, a number of entities across the Czech theatre community responded.
